World Class Safety Excellence
World Class Safety Excellence (WCSE) is a core value of STERIS Corporation. STERIS Corporation has a management driven commitment to the safety and well-being of all our Employees, Customers and Suppliers.
“STERIS Safety:
Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday . . .
The STERIS Way.”
World Class Safety Excellence is the strategy behind all Health, Safety & Environment initiatives. At STERIS, WCSE is interwoven in all our activities via employees working together – efficiently and effectively – to reduce or eliminate incidents.
With a solid base of management commitment and employee involvement, STERIS is well positioned to encourage employee ownership of our strong safety culture. To accomplish this task for locations within the United States, STERIS has chosen the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s Star Level, via the Voluntary Protection Program, which ensures total employee ownership. The OSHA VPP Star is bestowed only upon companies with exceptionally effective safety and health programs, injury and illness rates lower than the industry average, and managers and employees who work as a functional team to prevent incidents and eliminate hazards. Achieving VPP Star status demonstrates to employees and the community that we are a leader in safety and health.
For locations outside of the United States, STERIS has elected to implement (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) OHSAS 18001. OHSAS 18001 is an international specification that defines the requirements for an Occupational Health and Safety System based on legal compliance. It provides a framework for continual improvement in health and safety performance due to the structured approach in managing Health and Safety Issues. It ensures a preventive system rather than a detection only system, resulting in a reduced risk of incidents. It is through sustaining these aforementioned safety processes, that STERIS guarantees it’s excellence in world class safety.
STERIS currently is proud to have five locations that have achieved the STAR Level of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program. Other locations are in various stages of completing their applications. To further demonstrate our commitment to the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, STERIS is providing employees for the OSHA Special Government Employee (SGE) Program. The SGE Program was established to allow industry employees to work alongside OSHA during Voluntary Protection Programs' (VPP) onsite evaluations. Not only does this innovative program benefit OSHA by supplementing its on-site evaluation teams, but it gives industry and government an opportunity to work together and share views and ideas. Qualified volunteers from VPP sites are eligible to participate in the SGE program. These volunteers must be approved by OSHA and funded by their companies to participate.
